Cotton Candy Caves or Pink Caves, Moonee Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, NSW

This is a spectacular cave, worth a trip. Take a packed lunch and sit on the rocks or go back to Moonee Beach for lunch and a swim. The walk is not that far but it is so nice there I recommend taking your time. Don’t forget to take solid shoes, I saw some people struggling with thongs. Too many rocks and uneven surfaces for thongs.

The walk start was at Hooey Street Catherine Hill Bay. Map for directions is down below

I did some searching for how the pink caves were formed and I found this description

“The changing browns, pinks and purples of the famous grotto are due to the sheer force of saltwater, pummelling the rocks frequently to reveal the under-layers (and hues) of the natural rock formation. If you happen to visit when there are vivid yellows and greens, I’m afraid that that’s just a case of algae lingering on the rocks”
